SUBSCRIPTION CONCERTS, 2023-24 Season
In the opening concert of its 22nd season, Vocális highlights the extraordinary contributions of female composers to the choral art. For centuries, women have created deeply moving and exciting choral works. Join us as we shine a light on these often neglected works, both past and present.
A Vocális Christmas
A Vocális tradition continues! Join us as we ring in the holiday season in the glorious acoustics of S.S. Peter and Paul and the Karpeles Manuscript Museum. Bring the whole family! Relax to the sweet sounds of an intimate choral Christmas.
Timeless – Enduring Choral Classics
“Life is short, Art endures.” – Hippocrates. Join Vocális as we spotlight timeless choral works that have captivated audiences for centuries. These revered pieces are a reflection of our shared humanity, and give us glimpses of what is good and beautiful in our world. Join us, remember, and be inspired!
Choral Connections Weekend – Malcolm Merriweather
As we close our 22nd season, Vocális welcomes home one of America’s most dynamic young conductors, Malcolm Merriweather. A native of Grand Island, NY, Malcolm is director of the New York Philharmonic Chorus and New York City’s The Dessoff Choirs; serves on the faculty of Brooklyn College; and is Artistic Director of “Voices of Haiti,” a 60-member children’s choir in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, operated by the Andrea Bocelli Foundation.
Community Sing and Conversation with Malcolm Merriweather
Meet Dr. Merriweather as he conducts you in a rehearsal of music by under-recognized composers; discusses the art of choral conducting; and dialogues on social justice, equity, and inclusion as they relate to the choral art. All in the community are invited, and music will be provided. Bring your voice, or just sit and listen. Join us for an inspiring evening. Free Admission.
Choral Connections Season Finale Concert – Voices Raised
Vocális closes our 22nd season with a joyful celebration of the vast array of choral voices, presenting exciting works by historically marginalized composers. Guest Conductor Malcolm Merriweather leads a performance of Margaret Bond’s powerful piece Credo, as part of a program of choral works which demand to be performed. Join us as we create space for these voices to be raised.
Vocális Chamber Choir is supported in part with cultural funding from the Cullen Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts. Thanks to County Executive Mark Poloncarz, Governor Kathy Hochul, and the Erie County and New York State Legislatures for their continued support.
